Welcome

Granite slab versus prefabricated granite: which is better?

Find out more

Prefabricated F.A.Q's

Color Lots

Seam visibility: When more than one piece is needed, it can be challenging to match colors and patterns from different blocks of granite, leading to noticeable seams.

Less design flexibility

You are restricted to the available dimensions and shapes, making it difficult to create custom curves or match complex layouts.  Also can add more seams than slab material

Limited sizing

Prefabricated countertops come in a narrow range of standard sizes, which may not fit your specific space perfectly. This can result in awkward cuts, visible seams, or wasted material.

Potentially lower quality

Some mass-produced prefab countertops may be made with lower-quality materials to cut costs. This could include thinner slabs reinforced with wood, or a mixture of granite with other materials like resin

**SPECIAL NOTE **

Material-Specific Tariffs: Tariffs can be steep; for example, imported Chinese quartz surfaces have seen additional duties of over 200% in some cases. This makes domestic alternatives more competitive.

Cost-effective

Prefabricated countertops are less expensive than custom-cut slabs because the cutting, finishing, and edging are done in bulk, which reduces labor costs.

Hospitality

Prefabricated tops for the hospitality industry, such as hotels and restaurants, are available in materials including quartz, granite, porcelain, and laminate, and are valued for their durability, cost-effectiveness, and faster installation compared to custom options.

Sub Top required

Prefab stone and quartz countertops, on the other hand, require a full plywood deck,

Good for simple designs

Since they are pre-cut to standard sizes and often pre-edged, installation is quicker and requires less labor.

Faster installation

**SPECIAL NOTE **

Noise and Dust: Fabrication involves significant noise from cutting and grinding, and generates large amounts of hazardous silica dust, which is not compatible with a residential environment.

All natural stones are unique in their own ways, both aesthetically and structurally. All natural stones are porous, some more than others. The finish of a natural stone can make a difference in not only its aesthetics, but also its structural integrity.

Longer installation time

Requires more labor and time for templating, cutting, and fitting.

Exotic Stone Slabs
